The End
We woke up early and did the usual routine. Moira and I had decided to aim for a 10am departure from Chutes. She was travelling back to Toronto and I was moving on to catch the ferry from Manitoulin.
I’ve wanted to take the ferry for the past couple of years - mostly for the experience (yes I’m a nerd) but it never seemed to make sense. Either the sailings I wanted were sold out or it was more efficient to drive. This year it finally was workable. The ferry, in actual fact takes more time but it means a couple hours less driving. I’m happy with that and it’s a straight shot from Tobermory to Marie’s.
We packed up the site and then said ciao and we were on our way. I stopped at Timmie’s for steeped tea and a bagel in Espanola and then made the short drive to Little Current which is at the north end of the island and the first town. I’d read that there was a farmer’s market there on Saturdays and I wanted to pick up some nice things to take to Marie’s. When I got there it was definitely not a farmers market - more like junk market. T-shirts, popcorn, hats and lots of weird stuff. Disappointed, I looked at the list and read about Three Forks. So I made my way there which was a little out of the way but I had time to Three Forks is a small farm and the sell their own produce and various artisan products like cheese and meat so I picked up some cheese, wild blueberries, beautiful tomatoes and various other bits. Feeling better I got in the car and drove to the ferry dock.
Had time to kill before loading so had some lunch and walked Juno around. She did some swimmies at the nearby marina. Lots of other doggos waiting to get on the ferry! We watched the ferry come in and as it was turning into the channel it honked its horn and Juno panicked. If she hadn’t been leashed she would have run back to Toronto I think.
Drove on, climbed the stairs and found a quiet spot on the deck to settle in for the almost two hour journey.
She’s sitting next to me now trying not to be scared riding on this giant metal vibrating noisy beast. She’s trembling but also quite relaxed. I’m sure by the time we get back in the car, she’ll be acclimatized.
Going to be so happy to finally land at Marie’s. While it’s the end of the trip, it’s a perfect place to wind everything up and slowly reintegrate into normalcy.
I think this will be my last post. Marie and I don’t really do anything noteworthy. Just happy to be back in familiar lands.
