Departures
Beautiful day yesterday. Just puttered around and didn’t do much. Tom decided to stay one more day as he was unsure about how the weather was going to turn out so we puttered around each other, interrupting the quiet spaces with various conversation. Didn’t get up to much other than a walk to the beach, reading my book, nap on the hammock and a good dinner. Actually it was a perfect day.
After dinner, Tom looked at the weather for today and it looked great so he made the plan to leave in this morning. I was happy to have my space back. It’s funny, I was super happy to have the company but also relieved that he’d made the plan to go. Conversation was easy between us and so were the silences but when you don’t know someone well, there is always the pressure to entertain and I still don’t have much energy for it. After that great dinner and chats it was time to crawl into bed.
Woke up next morning after Jubs decided to sleep in Tom’s tent last night which I loved. Tom really liked Juno and seemed genuinely happy that she decided to sleep in his tent. I was happy too - it’s nice to have a break from her also.
Got up early and had coffee while Tom packed. I’d decided to paddle out with him for a bit to see him off and then head on to Playter Harbour because the weather looked perfect. We paddled for about an hour together and then said ciao. I puttered around Picture Rock Harbour and then Playter Harbour before heading back home. Got in around 1:30 and had planned to go into town but got in the car and the damn thing wouldn’t start. Turns out I’d left a charger plugged in which drained the battery. Called CAA and they were here from Marathon super quick and had me up and running again in a heartbeat.
Am now sitting, back in my chair, enjoying my last evening at Pukaskwa. I’m really sorry to be leaving but at the same time, after Tom’s company, I think it’s time to head home.
Tomorrow is Sault St. Marie for a night, then off to Chutes for a couple of nights with my friend Moira and then ferry to Marie’s place.
